Description
The Fierce Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization founded in honor of Karen Stevenson who lost her battle to glioblastoma (GBM) in 2018. A graduate of the Academy of Notre Dame de Namur (class of 1992) and of Saint Joseph’s University (class of 1996), Karen was an active and vibrant member of her community. As the mother of four young boys she spent countless hours at the baseball field or on the basketball court, both as a fan and a coach. In October of 2016, Karen suffered a massive seizure and soon received the devastating GBM diagnosis.
Over the course of her 16-month battle, Karen was surrounded by an incredible support system of family, friends and even strangers in the community. This was the genesis of The Fierce Foundation. Keenly aware that not everyone had access to that same level of support, Karen wanted to start a foundation that could fill that void. On a local level, our mission is to provide support and guidance to patients and families battling rare cancers. On a global level, The Fierce Foundation is dedicated to raising awareness for research and funding for rare cancers, like GBM, and impacting legislation related to grief counseling for children suffering from the loss of a parent or caregiver.
