ABOUT BARON EDMOND de ROTHSCHILD
In the French branch of the storied Rothschild family, the tradition of wine dates back to 1868 with the purchase of Château Lafite by James de Rothschild. After more than a century of family history interlinked with the world of wine, Baron Edmond de Rothschild, the great grandson of James, strengthened the family’s wine ties with the 1973 purchase of two “crus bourgeois” from Listrac and Moulis en Médoc: Château Clarke and Château Malmaison. He then founded the “Compagnie Vinicole Baron Edmond de Rothschild.” The estates were lovingly restored and the vines replanted. The company modernized and grew, but retained a family dimension. Since then, La Compagnie Vinicole Baron Edmond de Rothschild has opened itself to opportunities worldwide, starting with its venture with the Rupert family in South Africa. The “Rupert & Rothschild Vignerons” winery arose out of a common passion at the foot of the magnificent Simonsberg Mountain.
